The new Lumicene line of metallocene polyolefins announced by Total Petrochemicals (Brussels, Belgium) promises a range of benefits, such as higher cleanliness, improved gloss and transparency, better gas barrier and chemical resistance, easier processing, and improved mechanical performance. The Lumicene range, which consists of polyethylene resins for film, rotomolding, blowmolding, artificial grass, and closures, plus polypropylene grades for fiber, film, injection molding, and specific medical applications, will be available worldwide. According to Carl Van Camp, Total’s senior VP for polyolefins, "This combination of metallocene catalysts and Total Petrochemicals’ production and process know-how results in a dramatic improvement in appearance, mechanical, and environmental benefits, which allows the entire chain to be more competitive and to offer added-value solutions." The Lumicene polyolefins, according to Total’s VP for polyolefins R&D Guy Debras, are based on the latest generation of single-site metallocene catalysts currently in use for polymerizing polyolefins.
